The award acknowledges Schaduf’s role in advancing landscape-led urban strategies that support resilient communities, environmental responsibility, and long-term urban performance within complex metropolitan contexts. This recognition follows the high-level delegation visit hosted at Schaduf’s Cairo headquarters, led by Mr. Pei Xiao, Deputy Director-General, which facilitated knowledge exchange on sustainable urban development and heritage-sensitive planning.

The Merit Award was formally presented by Mr. Pei Xiao to Eng. Khaled Mohamed Abdelgawad, CEO of Schaduf, following an authentic Chinese imperial tradition. Exceptional contributions to land architecture and community building are commemorated through symbolic state honors. The award consists of a hand-embroidered silk scroll depicting the Shanghai waterfront—a culturally significant artifact that represents one of the highest forms of institutional recognition in China. Historically reserved for achievements of enduring impact, silk scrolls remain a living extension of Chinese heritage and a testament to excellence in shaping the built environment.

For Schaduf Landscape Architects, this recognition underscores the firm’s long-standing commitment to integrating landscape architecture, urban planning, and environmental stewardship as interconnected systems that serve both people and place. Founded in 2011, Schaduf operates as a multidisciplinary practice, with Schaduf Landscape Architects forming a specialized arm within the broader Schaduf Group. The practice continues to expand its international engagement through projects and collaborations that address the evolving challenges of contemporary cities—balancing growth, heritage, ecology, and human experience.

This international acknowledgment reinforces Schaduf’s position as a regional practice with a global outlook, dedicated to shaping urban environments that are resilient, contextual, and future-ready.
