SOMA BAY BLANCA – Hurghada, Egypt

Soma Bay Blanca unfolds as an integrated community of interconnected residential clusters set against the Red Sea’s azure backdrop. Schaduf’s master plan and landscape design celebrate the site’s natural contours through gently curving pedestrian spines, clustered parks, and water features that double as micro-climatic balancers. Our vision: a seamless dialogue between contemporary living and the desert-coastal environment, where every pathway, plaza, and private terrace fosters a deep connection to place.

Project Overview

Soma Bay Blanca unfolds as an integrated community of interconnected residential clusters set against the Red Sea’s azure backdrop. Schaduf’s master plan and landscape design celebrate the site’s natural contours through gently curving pedestrian spines, clustered parks, and water features that double as micro-climatic balancers. Our vision: a seamless dialogue between contemporary living and the desert-coastal environment, where every pathway, plaza, and private terrace fosters a deep connection to place.

Challenges
  • Coastal Context & Water Scarcity: Designing lush, inviting landscapes within an arid climate and respecting delicate seaside ecology.
  • Visual & Spatial Harmony: Orienting 350 000 m² of development to maximize sea views while maintaining a coherent, legible community fabric.
  • Sustainable Amenity Integration: Introducing inviting water elements and communal hubs without excessive resource demands.
Solutions
  • Clustered Masterplan: Residential neighborhoods are organized around a network of “green lungs”—from expansive central parks to intimate pocket gardens—ensuring every home opens onto shared landscape.
  • Native & Drought-Tolerant Palette: We selected resilient species—Panicum turgidum, Acacia tortilis, Hibiscus sabdariffa—to minimize irrigation, support local biodiversity, and enrich seasonal color.
  • Water-Wise Features: Cascading fountains and reflective pools create refreshing micro-climates. Integrated rainwater harvesting and efficient drip irrigation nurture plantings with minimal waste.
  • Indoor-Outdoor Seamlessness: Private terraces and patios extend architectural interiors into the landscape, using local stone paving and subtle grade changes to define intimate outdoor living rooms.
  • Multi-Layered Public Realm: Shaded gathering plazas, bioswales, and winding promenades encourage exploration, social interaction, and healthy lifestyles.

Outcomes
  • A Verdant Sanctuary: Over 70% green coverage transforms the site into a living oasis that engages residents with nature daily.
  • Enhanced Well-Being: Thoughtful micro-climates and accessible communal spaces promote comfort, leisure, and social cohesion.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Native planting and water-sensitive design reduce maintenance, conserve resources, and bolster coastal resilience.
  • Distinct Sense of Place: Cohesive design language and strategic siting harness the Red Sea views, delivering an unmistakable coastal identity.

Conclusion

Through strategic planning, sensitive ecology, and a human-centered design ethos, Schaduf has shaped Soma Bay Blanca into more than a residence—it is a coastal sanctuary that celebrates Egypt’s natural beauty while fostering sustainable, connected living.
