Case Study: PROJECT ADVENTURE
Client: Sukna Development | Location: Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia | Area: 82 000 m²
Scope: Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Planning
Project Overview
Project Adventure is poised to become the first park in Saudi Arabia and the GCC dedicated entirely to adventure and athletic activities. Spanning 82 000 m² in Jeddah, the park features zip lines, hanging ropes, wall-climbing, obstacle courses, cycling tracks, and a variety of athletic games. As lead consultant, Schaduf crafted an innovative masterplan that harmoniously weaves over 18 athletic experiences into a natural, open-park setting—balancing excitement with tranquility.
Challenges
- Program Integration: Seamlessly embedding a diverse array of 18+ athletic activities within one cohesive landscape without disrupting the park’s open, park-like character.
- International Standards: Ensuring each activity met rigorous safety and functionality requirements set by global sports federations.
- Sustainability Mandate: Designing high-energy facilities while conserving scarce water resources, minimizing carbon footprint, and preserving local biodiversity.
Solutions
- Holistic Masterplanning: We organized activity zones along the site’s natural contours, maintaining sightlines and circulation paths that link adventure elements with passive green spaces.
- Federation-Compliant Design: Each facility— from climbing walls to cycling loops—was detailed to satisfy international federation specifications, guaranteeing safety and performance.
- Eco-Responsible Infrastructure:
- Native, Drought-Resistant Planting: Minimizes irrigation needs and sustains local biodiversity.
- Renewable Energy Systems: Solar panels supply park lighting, while LED fixtures reduce energy consumption.
- Advanced Water Management: A smart irrigation network uses recycled water and rainwater harvesting to hydrate plantings efficiently.
- Environmental Education: Informational signage and interactive exhibits throughout the park promote visitor awareness of sustainable practices.
Outcomes
- Regional Benchmark: Project Adventure establishes a pioneering model for adventure parks in the GCC, demonstrating how high-octane recreation can coexist with ecological stewardship.
- Seamless Visitor Experience: Guests enjoy uninterrupted transitions between thrill zones and contemplative green areas, fostering both exhilaration and respite.
- Sustainable Legacy: The park’s low-impact materials, water-wise systems, and renewable energy installations ensure long-term environmental resilience.
- Community Engagement: Educational signage and hands-on exhibits transform the park into a living classroom for sustainability and outdoor fitness.
Conclusion
Project Adventure exemplifies Schaduf’s commitment to designing landscapes that deliver both dynamic experiences and environmental responsibility. By integrating world-class adventure facilities with cutting-edge sustainability measures, we have created a park that thrills visitors while preserving Jeddah’s natural heritage—setting a new standard for landscape architecture in the region.
