Project Overview

IL Monte Galala Sokhna is a Cityscape Global Award–winning resort sprawling over 2.2 million m² on Egypt’s Red Sea coast in Ain Sokhna. For the initial phases—covering 400,000 m²—Schaduf Landscape Architects served as the landscape consultant across four key zones: residential parcels, the sales center, a desert basecamp adventure park, and a mobilization area featuring an outdoor art symposium.

Challenges
  • Desert Adventure Park (60,000 m²)

As Egypt’s first dedicated desert adventure park, the brief called for camping sites, a rope obstacle course, outdoor yoga and parkour zones, plus rock climbing and hiking areas—all set within a seamless, “man free” natural environment.

  • Sales Center & Art Symposium (30,000 m²)

Positioned to capitalize on panoramic mountain and sea vistas, the sales center needed to illustrate the resort lifestyle while integrating an outdoor art symposium for emerging sculptors. Proximity to the shoreline mandated strict use of on site, locally sourced materials to preserve the coastal ecosystem.

  • Integrated Resort Masterplan

Coordinating landscape identity across diverse programmatic areas—residential, sales, adventure, and cultural—required a unifying strategy that respected each zone’s unique character while ensuring a coherent guest experience.

Solutions
  • Basecamp Master Planning

We exploited the site’s natural topography—retaining rock outcrops and native sand dunes—to conceal structures and minimize visual impact. Indigenous plantings and crushed stone pathways reinforce the illusion of untouched desert, while designated challenge zones are carefully nestled into the terrain.

  • Sales Center & Art Symposium Design

Strategic siting on the highest promontory offers sweeping views for prospective buyers. Collaborating with Mona Hussein Design House, we created broad sculpture lawns, shaded gathering amphitheaters, and discrete service zones—all constructed from local stone and desert hued aggregates to blend with the landscape.

  • Unified Phased Approach

Across all four areas, we established a consistent palette of native vegetation, hardscape materials, and water wise irrigation systems. A phased implementation plan ensured that each zone could be activated independently while maintaining connectivity through interpretive walking trails and sculpted landforms.

Outcomes
  • Authentic Desert Experience

The adventure park delivers an immersive wilderness setting, with visitors unaware of the engineered interventions—fulfilling the client’s vision for a pure, natural adventure.

  • Iconic Sales & Cultural Hub

The sales center’s dramatic location and the acclaimed art symposium have become key marketing assets, drawing both buyers and art enthusiasts to the resort.

  • Award Winning Framework

Our cohesive landscape strategy contributed directly to IL Monte Galala Sokhna’s Cityscape Global Award, setting a benchmark for integrated desert resort design in the region.

Conclusion

Schaduf’s landscape mastery for IL Monte Galala Sokhna demonstrates our ability to marry adventure, luxury living, and cultural engagement within a single, sustainable resort ecosystem. Through precise master planning, context driven material use, and a deep respect for the desert environment, we have laid the foundation for a landmark destination on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
